Dr. Ebony Hill-Potts pays tribute to her deceased mother Sheilon Hill with her community assistance foundation

Dr. Hill-Potts, deeply affected by her mother’s generous spirit and giving nature, founded the Sheilon Hill Community Assistance Foundation in 2013 after the sudden and untimely death of her mother.

As a Cobb County educator Dr. Hill-Potts has firsthand experience with families struggling just to get by. She is concerned with the difficult choice that many Cobb County families face; uprooting their families from the area and moving to Atlanta, GA in search of more abundant resources. Inside Atlanta city limits there are more resources for those in need, but also more competition for those resources. In Cobb County there are better schools but less concentration of resources available to families in need.  SHCAF is working to close that gap.

The charity is expanding its reach this year, providing services in multiple locations all over Cobb County GA. Now more than ever, this crucial nonprofit could use your help. Consider helping Sheilon Hill reach its 2015 goals, and feed and clothe the less fortunate.

Georgia Poverty

Georgia has one of the highest child poverty rates in the nation, surpassed only by Louisiana, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Mississippi. The state’s overall economic health falls into the bottom 6 states. There is much media coverage about Georgia’s poverty rate, and in particular, its child poverty rate. Regardless of cause and potential remedies, the state remains one of the neediest in the nation; organizations such as SHCAF give relief where it’s needed most, on the streets.

From clothing and food drives, to luncheons soliciting donations, SHCAF continues to expand its efforts to bridge the gap for many poverty stricken families.
