Francis Ahrens to Ride Bicycle cross country to raise funds for charity – Ability Experience.
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –
Francis Ahrens will be riding his bicycle from the West Coast to Washington D.C.
This isn't the first time that Francis has ridden for charity, last year he rode with a teammate.
He really enjoys seeing the results of his efforts.
"We saw a music studio that they built with the grant money from The Ability Experience so it was really neat to see what we fundraise go back into the community," he said.
He stops along the way to meet people who actually benefit from his ride.
"We eat with them, we chat with them,we have a lot of dance parties, we bowl," he said, "We sometimes even get to play some adaptive sports. We got to play wheelchair ice hockey in Wisconsin this last summer."
The Ability Experience
The charity awards grants to organizations that help both kids and adults with disabilities.
From The Ability Experience website:
“The Ability Experience, formerly Push America, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves people with disabilities. The Ability Experience was founded in 1977 as the national philanthropy of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity with the purpose of instilling lifelong service in its members and enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. Although the organization is still fulfilling the purpose for which it was intended, The Ability Experience has grown into a nationally recognized nonprofit with numerous programs educating undergraduates, alumni and communities about the abilities of people with disabilities.”
